House Spirits Distillery has recently introduced a bespoke whisk(e)y barrel program called Whisk(e)y Your Way. While some whisk(e)y distilleries in the U.S. and abroad do sell barrels to individual customers, those programs are restricted to "off the shelf" spirits already manufactured by those distilling houses. For the House Spirits program, customers come in for an initial educational tasting seminar and then go through an individual consultation with the Distiller to select the grains used, distillation method, barrel type, water variety, etc. The customer is invited (although not required) to participate in creating the "wash" and assist in running the still. The result is a completely unique, personal barrel of whisk(e)y tailored to a customers exact specifications. While the whisk(e)y takes a minimum of 3-5 years to mature in the barrel, customers are encouraged to sample their barrel frequently during that period to monitor progress and learn how the wood contributes to the finished spirit. House Spirits has an online community as well as an annual event for its barrel clients where they are encouraged to swap samples of their unique personal whisk(e)ys and share their passion for whisk(e)y with other enthusiasts.
